Follow the Steps Below to Begin the Windows 11 Upgrade Process
Microsoft is ending their support of Windows 10, so IT will be upgrading you to Windows 11. The process is fairly simple and involves ensuring that you have backed up your files, then opening the Software Center on your machine, clicking next, and restarting a couple of times. This process can take anywhere between 90 minutes to 2 hours.
These steps are numbered and should be followed in order. If at any time you would like to call or bring your device down to the Support Center for moral support, please feel free to do so.
Step 1. Restart your computer before starting this process.
NOTE: This step is important and will allow your computer to finalize and clear up any pending tasks. If you don't restart regularly, it is possible that your computer may try to apply updates and might require more than one restart.
Step 2. Backup all your files. Make sure that any files on your computer that aren't in your OneDrive or on your N drive are backed up before moving to the next step.
- Confirm that your OneDrive is connected - Click on the OneDrive icon located on the lower right-hand side of your desktop near the clock. It should be blue and should say, "up to date" when you hover over the cloud. If it does not say this, you may need to click on it and sign it to ensure connectivity.
- Any files on your local computer that are NOT in your documents, desktop, and pictures folder must be moved to any of those folders.
- Now that you have moved your files to the backup locations: Sync all of your files by clicking on the OneDrive icon located on the lower right-hand side of your desktop near the clock. Remember it should be blue and should say, "up to date" when you hover over the cloud.

- Click the Settings icon and select "Settings" option from the pop-up menu.

- Click on the Manage Backups button

- Confirm that the toggles for Documents, Desktop & Pictures are set to on. If any toggles were changed, Save changes. If no changes were made, close the window.

If you make any changes in the above window, you should resync your files.
Step 3. To prevent loss of any web browser settings, confirm that your default browser is signed in and syncing your browser settings.
NOTE: If you do not login to your browser, you have a choice. You could simply write down/keep track of your favorites, or you could google the browser name and backing up/exporting favorites. Call the Support Center if you need assistance with this.
Step 4. Use Software Center to find the Update
- Once you have confirmed that files are synced, open up Software Center from the start menu and select the Operating Systems option. The upgrade will now be available to begin.

If the update is not listed
- Go to Control Panel to launch Configuration Manager
- Under the Actions tab of Configuration Manager

-
Within about a minute, you will see the Operating System Upgrade available.
-
Click on the upgrade and select Install.

The installation will begin and will take about 1 hour.
The PC will reboot a couple of times until it is completed.
If the upgrade does not appear or you run into any other issues submit a ticket here with your computer's asset tag number and we will address the issue.
