How Do I Activate/Deactivate the Focused Inbox feature in Outlook

Outlook 2016 for Windows

  1. Select the View tab.

  2. Select Show Focused Inbox.

    The Focused and Other tabs will disappear from the top of your mailbox.

Note: If you don't see the button, your version of Outlook might not include this feature. You can always check for updates by selecting File > Office Account > Update Options > Update Now.

 

Outlook on the Web

  1. Select Settings icon > Display settings > Focused Inbox.

  2. Under When email is received, select Don't sort messages.

  3. Click OK.

Outlook 2016 for Mac

  1. On the Organize tab, select Focused inbox.

    The Focused and Other tabs will disappear from the top of your mailbox.

Note for Mac Users: If you don't see the Focused Inbox button, make sure your version of Office 2016 for Mac is updated by selecting Help > Check For Updates. If you are up-to-date and the Focused Inbox button is still not visible, do the following:

  • Log in to Outlook on the Web and turn off the Focused Inbox feature (see directions above).
  • Save the change in Outlook on the Web.
  • Return to Outlook 2016 for Mac on your computer and click on the Inbox folder.
  • Go to the "Organize" tab and select "Sync Folder". The Focused Inbox button should reappear. (See picture below).
  • After the Focused Inbox button has been restored in Outlook for Mac, you can re-activate the feature in Outlook for the Web.
