Recently, Microsoft made a change to the licensing structure for academic institutions. In order to maximize software features and simultaneously be mindful of budget, DU-IT is now issuing a different type of Microsoft license to adjunct faculty. This new license, known as the A3, contains the same features offered to full-time faculty and staff with one exception: the ability to download free versions of desktop applications (ex: Word, Excel) is no longer available. These tools will still be available to this group, through the browser, when logged into email.
Because adjunct faculty are not issued DU-owned devices and a vast majority of this population utilizes web versions of Microsoft products, DU-IT does not anticipate major consternation regarding this change. Should an adjunct faculty have a legitimate need for desktop versions of Microsoft applications, DU-IT has created a request process for upgrading to the standard A1 license issued to full-time faculty and staff. Requests for upgrade must be made to the DU-IT Support Center via this form and will be evaluated based on use case. Any questions or concerns will be communicated to the appropriate academic unit. If approved for an upgrade, the license cost difference will be covered by DU-IT.
We appreciate your support in absorbing the pivot made by Microsoft. If you have any questions, comments, or concerns, please reach out.
