How do I Merge Multiple Sections of the Same Class in Canvas?

Submit a Support Center case to have multiple sections of the same class merged together.  For example, if you are teaching section 1 and section 2 of the same class, they can be merged into one.  There are several points to be aware of, however:

• Courses must be merged BEFORE any grades have been recorded. If active courses are merged, assignment submissions and grades will be removed and may not be recoverable from one of the sections.
• Students must be alerted to the fact that two sections are merged into one class site, since students in your section 2 course site will be seeing the course as section 1 on their Dashboard.  (We typically merge the higher section number into the lower one.)
• You CAN still create separate assignments with separate due dates for each section.  This is covered in this online document from Canvas.
• Students from both sections will always be able to see ALL Discussions in a course site. While you can assign different due dates for graded discussions to each section, students from each section will still be able to view all discussions.
• Your view of the gradebook can be isolated to students in each section by clicking the Showing All Sections drop-down menu in the upper-right corner.
