Turnitin is an originality detection service that can enabled with any assignment in Canvas by your instructor, assuming the assignment requires an online submission. You will be able to tell that it has been enabled from a message you see on the screen when submitting the assignment online. You submit this assignment like any other online assignment in Canvas, as explained here: How do I submit a document as a homework assignment in Canvas?
When you get to the assignment and the screen that contains your instructor's directions for the assignment, you will see that it has been set for a submission to Turnitin in the Submitting area (circled below).
You will also see an excerpt from Dominican's Academic Integrity Policy in the area where you attach a file (number 1 on screen capture below). Read it, and be sure to click the checkbox below it. Your instructor may have also left a specific message to the class, as well. (See circled area in screen capture below.) You can then click the Choose File or Browse button (the button label will vary by browser; see number 2 on screen capture below) to find your file on your drive to upload it:
It is a violation of our Turnitin license for the service to be used by anyone outside of Dominican. All students who use the service must be Dominican University students.
Viewing Your Turnitin Match Score
How soon (or even IF) you can see the Turnitin match score will depend on how your instructor set up the assignment. If your instructor allows you to see it right away (even before it is graded) you will be able to see it via the Grades menu area. It will appear as a colored icon on the far right:
When you click on that icon, there will be a user agreement window you will have to click "I Agree" for, after which you will see your submitted work. To see your match overview score, click directly on the number that will appear in the toolbar that is over on the far right. When you click it, the toolbar will expand, showing you more detailed information and your score. There is more detail on what the icons mean in the Turnitin Feedback Studio (as its called) on their web site in this document: Interpreting the Similarity Report. Bear in mind this does not take into account any additional comments your instructor may have left once grading has been completed.
