Why is my file or assignment not uploading to Canvas?

Uploading a file for an assignment (or anywhere in Canvas for faculty) is one area where having an up-to-date version of the Flash browser plug-in is critical. First, make sure your browser is up to date. A listing of the browser requirements for Canvas is here:  Which browsers does Canvas support?

 

Next, check that your version of Flash is up-to-date. You can check for the version of Flash you have (as well as download a newer version) from Adobe's Flash Player download page.

If neither of the above suggestions works and your file still will not upload, here are additional suggestions that we have found should work:

  • Do NOT use Internet Explorer/Edge. Although it is listed as officially supported by Canvas, PC users have far more success with either Firefox or Chrome.
  • Simply try a different browser!  For no apparent reason, this "solution" will work more often than not.
  • And finally, clear your browser cache.
