Canvas generally supports the latest two versions of any web browser. But you should check the following Canvas support page on this topic, which is constantly updated with the latest versions Canvas supports, as well as any required plugins: Which browsers does Canvas support?
If something does not work correctly for some reason, we have often found that merely switching to a different browser may work, so for that reason is it never a bad idea to have at least two web browsers on your computer, if possible. (Also, we have had the least success with Internet Explorer and its successor, Edge, even though it is "officially" supported.)

If you have difficulty verifying which version of a browser you are using (or the version of Flash, which is needed for uploading files), a safe site to run a quick check for desktop-based browsers (not smartphones) and major plug-ins is at Whats My Browser.
Canvas also has its own iOS and Android apps for smartphones or tablets. Either app can be downloaded for free in the appropriate app store; just search for Canvas or Instructure Canvas in the store.
