Overview

Due to changes in SPSS licensing and increased enrollment, Dominican University has implemented a centralized concurrent licensing model. SPSS now verifies its license through a network-based license server.

Important: Users must be connected to the Dominican University network to run SPSS.

  • On-campus: Connect to the DU network.
  • Off-campus: Connect to the DU VPN before launching SPSS.
  • SPSS is still installed and runs locally on your computer.
  • The licensing check occurs automatically through the network once configured.

Who This Applies To

  • Faculty and staff with a locally installed version of SPSS.
  • Students using SPSS should access the application through the University's Remote Applications service.

Common User Questions

Do I need to connect to a server manually every time?

No. Once configured, SPSS automatically checks the license server when it launches.

Can I use SPSS while off-campus?

Yes, but you must connect to the DU VPN before opening SPSS.

Why is this required?

SPSS licensing is now centrally managed through a network license server. This allows IT to maintain licensing in a single location while reducing administrative overhead and licensing costs.
