Unless explicitly stated on the documentation for a method, the accepted Web API call content types are:

application/json

Calls using any other content type (ex: text/plain) are not supported.

TeamDynamix.Api.Cmdb.ConfigurationItem.ExternalID

The external ID of the configuration item. This value is used to map the configuration item to its representation in external sources such as third-party CMDBs.
